Mandarinareas.
DescriptionofServiceandOperatingHours:
MakingLearningFunTutoringServiceprovides servicessuchasconsultations,assessmenttesting,and
oneon‐oneorsmallgrouptutoring
sessions,testreviews,studyskills,andassistancewithFCATtesting
preparation.
Tutoringcanbeprovidedeitheratschool,alocallibraryorthestudent’shome.Hourswillbeafter
schoolbyappointmentbetween2:30pm5:30pm.Weekendappointments areavailableataslightly
highercost.NosessionsonSundays.Appointmentscaneither
bemadebyphoneoronthewebsite.
Therewillbeabrokenappointmentfeefornoshowsand/orcancellationsmadewithlessthen24hours
ofnotice.
Marketing:
MakingLearningFunTutoringServicewilluseflyersastheprimaryresourcetomarketourservices.
Aftergettingpermissionfromthe
schoolprincipalswewillhangflyersatlocalschoolsandprovide
additionalflyerstotheguidanceoffices.Wewillalsoadvertiseourservicesduringschool
announcements.Sincetutoringwilltakeplaceatlocallibraries,flyerswillalsobelocatedonthe
communitybulletinboards.Ina dditiontoflyers,anothermarketingtool
willbeamonthlyrafflefora
freehouroftutoring.Rafflebowlswillbelocatedatthelibraryandtheschoolfrontoffice;studentscan
entertheirnamesforthedrawingthatwillbedoneattheendofthemonth.
Theflyerswillbedesignedbythestudents
andsincewewillbeofferingserviceswithintheschool,we
havebeenallowedtomake50copiesforfreeonceamonth.Utilizingalocalofficesupplystorefor
additionalcopiesi.e. OfficeMax,OfficeDepot,Kinko’sorStaplesweplantospendroughly$60foran
additional200copies.

MakingLearningFunTutoringServicewillpayalocalstudentforwebdesignandmaintenanceof
website,withastartupfeeof$75andmonthlymaintenancefeeof$35.
Competition:
DirectcompetitionwillcomefromothertutoringcenterssuchasKaplanTutoring,SylvanLearning, and
HuntingtonLearningCenterwith
someofferingSundayhours.TwoadvantagesofMakingLearningFun
TutoringServicearetheabilitytotraveltothestudent’sschoolorhomeandparentsdon’thaveto
worryaboutleavingworktopickuptheirchildandtraveltoatutoringcenter.
MakingLearningFunTutoringServicedoesnotintendtocompetedirectlywiththesecenters,but
provideparentsandstudentswithalowcoststudenttostudentapproach.
Management:
MakingLearningFunTutoringServiceisownedbythreestudentsinthemathclubatBonaparteHigh.
Werangeinagefrom16
18yearsoldandarerankedwithinthetop5%ofourclass.We’vemaintained
straightA’sinallofouradvancedmathandscienceclassesandtwoofushavebeentakingcollegelevel
mathsinceourjunioryear.Wehavebeentutoringstudentsatourhighschool
forthepasttwoyears.
Anassignmentinoneofourbusiness/financeclassedwastodevelopabusinessplan.Thissparkedthe
ideaofmakingmoneydoingsomethingweenjoy.
Thebusinesswilltrackclientsbyusingspreadsheetsandsigninformswhenmeetingwithstudents.
Eachtutorisexpected
tomaintainatleasttwoongoingclients.Whennewstudentssignuptherewill
bearotatingschedule,unlessastudentrequestsaspecifictutor.
Finance:
Ourclientswillbecharged$20perhourwithaminimumtwohourcommitmentmeetingtwiceaweek
twotimesamonth.Additionalsessions
maybeneededdependingontheresultsoftheassessmenttest.
Eachtutorwillput20%oftheirfeescollectedbackintothebusinessforexpensessuchassupplies,
advertising,andwebsitemaintenance.
